My name is Jason. I enjoy spending time with family – especially my nephew – and watching movies on Netflix. I am also a HUGE Georgia Bulldogs fan!! I am always very cheerful, somewhat dependable, and easy to get along with once you get to know me. I like working at NCB because it allows me to get out of the house during the day on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

My name is Renee. I enjoy fishing, reading, working out at the gym, running/walking 5ks, and horseback riding; in fact, I collect anything horse related. I also collect crosses with bible verses. I have Cerebral Palsy in the right side of my body, along with a speech impairment. I am a very easy-going, flexible, and dependable individual. I like working at NCB because I enjoy the computer-work, as well as the people whom I connect with, and of course, books.

My name is Judy, and I am a “volunteer staff member” at NCB. I enjoy reading, games, gardening, crafting, cooking, and antiquing (I collect antiques, so this one is especially fun for me). I had a brain aneurism a while ago, which causes me some memory loss. I like volunteering at NCB because it gives me a sense of helping others. I am very caring, a good listener, and love to share. I am also responsible for making the custom-order journals and birdhouses here.

My name is Mike. I enjoy reading, shopping (particularly for books – especially for my niece, Hayden - and movies), going to dirt track racing events and hard rock concerts, and watching movies; in fact, I collect Disney movies. I also collect knives. I suffered a TBI in an automobile accident when I was 16 and, as a result, am now wheelchair bound and have a speech impediment; however, my disability has not dampened my sense of humor and does not stop me from being optimistic and, at times, mischievous. I like working at NCB because it is the best thing that has happened to me job wise since getting out of a nursing home in 2006; literally, a dream come true. I LOVE it.

My name is Emilie. I was born on December 10th 1991, and I have a disease called Mitochondrial Disease (commonly referred to as “Mito”), which is a progressively degenerative disorder that affects the mitochondria in the body. I also have a hyperkinetic movement disorder, some speech issues, and OCD. Since October 2014, as a creative outlet for my OCD, I have been making real-time lyric videos of my favorite music genre – Christian rock – and uploading them to YouTube (If you want to check them out, go to; oh, and make sure and read the description, as well). In addition to my video-making, I enjoy watching NCIS (My favorite show) on Tuesday evenings, going to worship, shopping – for ANYTHING, listening to music on my iPod, and computer games and social media. I collect shot glasses (though I do not drink), cookbooks (though I do not cook or bake), Point of Grace CDs, old coins, and I have just started a collection of postcards of places that I have been (since people bring back shot glasses for me when they go places). I am stubborn as a mule, very smart, and quite observant. I like working at NCB because they understand disabled people and how sometimes what you see on the outside is not necessarily reflective of what is on the inside. It also gives me a chance to talk about my disability with others. If you are ever in the area on Tuesday or Thursday, swing by and ask to talk with me; I would love to meet you.

My name is Libby, and I am Emilie’s service dog. I help her by picking things up if she needs me to, being a constant companion, and also “breaking the ice” between her and “normal” people so that they will come up and talk to her. I have ACD (Attention Craving Disorder), which causes me to lean up against people to get them to pet me, and nudge people when they stop petting me. I love playing with my sister, CJ (a golden retriever), and going for walks. I am always on the go because I accompany Emilie EVERYWHERE – including work – where I get LOTS of attention!!! I am lovable, a food-mooch, and VERY sociable. Most people think that they absolutely CANNOT pet a service dog when they are working; however, the rule of thumb is to always ask first. If you ever see me in the bookstore with Emilie, ask her before you pet me. I’m sure that she will say yes.

My name is Jamella. I enjoy swimming, drawing, and volunteering at the animal shelter. I also enjoy going to school. I have CP in my legs. I can still walk, just not as well as others. Despite my disability, I am very confident in what I do, and my smile is contagious. I like working at NCB because our boss is a great person. It’s also something to do. I like to stay busy. I am not much of a book reader, but I occasionally find a book or two that I am willing to read. There are much more than books here, too, and I will take anything here that has to do with Beyonce. I LOVE Beyonce. If I could I would have my room full of her pictures. If you have anything Beyonce that you would like to donate, please tell the front desk that it is for Jamella. Also, don’t forget to look around and see if anything here tickles YOUR fancy, as well.

My name is Dhiren. I enjoy Special Olympics, swimming, sports, cleaning/organizing, cooking, playing video games, drawing, exercising, watching DVDs, bible study, reading, and adding to my collection of DC comic books. I am accommodating when it comes to people who cannot do as much as I can, a perfectionist when it comes to work and getting things done, and compassionate toward both two and four legged creatures (I volunteer at the animal shelter occasionally). I like working at NCB because it is a good opportunity to help in the community and give back. Also, D’ete is a GREAT boss; she makes me smile every time I walk into the bookstore – even when she is not there, someone is always there to help me out. In addition, I like talking to and helping customers.

My name is Marc. I enjoy swimming, reading, writing, and playing golf and tennis. I am a very honest, loyal, and hard-working individual. I like working at NCB because it allows me to get out of the house, and gives me something to do – I suffered a TBI in an automobile accident, so I cannot get out as much as I used to. Occasionally, the bookstore will get a donation of comic books – that makes me very excited because it gives me a chance to add to my comic book collection. I also collect baseball cards and coins.

My name is Billy. I enjoy participating in Special Olympics, hanging out with friends, and riding the bus – particularly to the mall. I was born with a learning disability that followed me through high school (I graduated with a special education diploma); but now, I seem to have outgrown it. I am very polite, supportive, and easy to get along with. It is fun for me to work at NCB and to be able to learn some life skills. Also, the management and other staff here are the best.

My name is Finley. I enjoy drawing, playing piano and video games, reading, and adding to my collections of Pokémon and Mario paraphernalia. I am very friendly and compassionate toward both two and four-legged creatures. I am also a hard-worker. I have Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, and like working at NCB because it gives me a chance to make my mom proud of me. Plus, I like telling the public how NCB is a GREAT bookstore to come and/or donate to.

My name is Kalin. I enjoy arts and crafts, spending time with family and friends, playing with my dogs, and reading. I also love ANYTHING that has to do with fashion (particularly purses and handbags; although I do not collect them.). I have a tumor in the back of my brain and get severe migraines, and am short for my age. Despite my difficulties, I am a very creative, fun-loving, and laid back young lady. I like working at NCB because I like the atmosphere and the people. Plus, I LOVE books.
